HAZMAT Training

HAZMAT means?

HAZMAT is an abbreviation for “hazardous materials”—substances in quantities or forms that may pose a reasonable risk to health, property, or the environment. HAZMATs include such substances as toxic chemicals, fuels, nuclear waste products, and biological, chemical, and radiological agents. HAZMATs may be released as liquids, solids, gases, or a combination or form of all three, including dust, fumes, gas, vapor, mist, and smoke.

Why HAZMAT Training?

To enhance awareness and generate a high degree of safety consciousness amongst the participants, regarding the dangers associated with the exposure to, handling, carriage, storage and transport of hazardous materials. Training will be focused on safe and correct methods of dealing with hazardous material, including dealing with emergencies related to hazardous material.

Content of HAZMAT Training?

  • General familiarization
  • Training requirements for various personnel and departments
  • Legal requirements and recommendations (MSC Circular 1216)
  • Identifying hazardous material (IMDG Code) / Hazardous material Classification
  • In-depth knowledge of the IMDG Code + Supplement
  • Marking, Labeling, Placarding
  • Quantity limitations (Limited and Excepted)
  • Safe handling procedures and practices
  • Acceptance, handling, storage and segregation requirements in CFS, ICD and Port area
  • Emergency Procedures and Medical First Aid
  • Emergency response and contingency planning
  • Environmental hazards
  • Planning of layout of dangerous cargo areas in CFS, ICD and Port area
  • Security arrangements

Objectives of HAZMAT Training?

To be able to:

  • Understand handling and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Obtaining information from IMDG-Code regarding classification, dangerous goods list, consignment procedures, packing, stowage, segregation and transportation.
  • Describe IMDG classes, divisions, packing groups.
  • Describe methods of identifying hazardous materials based on their marking, labelling and placarding of containers.
  • Understand legal requirements and importance of proper storage and segregation of hazardous materials.
  • Understand documentation required internationally for the safe transport of hazardous materials.
  • Understand emergency response, medical first aid procedures.

This training program is intended for all personnel involved or likely to be involved in the handling, carriage, storage, and transport of hazardous material, including those involved in ensuring the security of Hazardous Material shipments.
